These are the questions our State College office fields most from Centre County households and businesses planning a relocation with Appalachian Movers. Browse our full range of moving services for details on what each job covers. If your question is not here, send it through the free quote form or contact our teama real person from our roster, not a call center, will answer it. No outside carrier ever touches your job.

What does a local State College move cost?
You can book hourly or on a flat written rate, and we tell you which one fits before you commit. A 2-mover crew is $115/hr and a 3-mover crew is $155/hr, both with a 2-hour minimum, truck, pads, and dollies included. Most customers pick the flat rate: studio or 1BR runs $475–$725, 2BR $950–$1,550, 3BR $1,750–$2,800, and 4BR $3,000–$4,400.
How early should I book in Centre County?
Two to three weeks is comfortable for most relocation work. Month-end, the first weekend of any month, and the Penn State student turnover in May and August fill up fastest. If your date is tight, send it through the quote form anyway — we hold a few crews open for short-notice jobs.
How do you handle Pennsylvania winter weather?
From November through March every truck carries chains, salt, and shovels, and Trent watches the radar before he dispatches a job. We start early when a snowband is forecast and protect heat-sensitive pieces from cold and condensation. If your move-in stalls, our climate-controlled storage runs $145–$370/mo by unit size.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Appalachian Movers is a Pennsylvania household-goods carrier holding PA PUC authority and US DOT and MC numbers for interstate work, with $1M in cargo coverage on every job. Ask Hannah and we will show the paperwork before move day — no broker workaround, no "matched carrier" disclaimer.
What is included in the price?
Every local relocation includes the truck, fuel, furniture pads, dollies, shrink wrap, and basic disassembly and reassembly of beds and standard furniture. There is no travel-time padding or fuel surcharge added at the end — the flat number we write down is the number you pay at unload.
Do you move Penn State students and faculty?
Yes. May and August are our busiest weeks — apartment turnover on College Ave and Beaver Ave, off-campus rental moves on Atherton, dorm-to-house transitions, and faculty relocations into Park Forest and Boalsburg. Tell us your lease dates on the quote form and we will build the schedule around them.
Can you handle historic Bellefonte and downtown homes?
Yes. Tight Victorian staircases, third-floor walk-ups, narrow doorframes, and finished basements to load out of are normal Centre County work for our crew. Caleb has spent years on these houses — call out anything oversized on the quote form so we send the right gear and headcount.
Can you handle a long-distance move out of State College?
Yes. Long-distance relocation runs on a binding written quote tied to your inventory and the two ZIP codes, not a number that creeps up later. Whether you are headed to Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, DC, NYC, or Cleveland, the same Appalachian Movers crew loads and delivers, and the $1M cargo coverage travels with your shipment.
Do you move pianos and other specialty items?
Yes — pianos have their own line: roughly $250–$450 for an upright and $450–$800 for a baby grand, handled with proper boards and straps. We also move gun safes, appliances, fitness equipment, and oversized art. Flag any specialty piece on the quote form so Jordan and the right crew show up.
Are you a moving company?
Yes — Appalachian Movers is a licensed, insured State College moving company running our own trucks and W-2 crews. We are not a broker, moving company, or lead aggregator, and your job is never handed to an outside carrier. The uniformed movers at your door are our employees, the truck has our name on it, and the price is the price we wrote down.

Why Happy Valley Books Appalachian Movers

From Bellefonte Victorians to Boalsburg ranches and the Atherton corridor — a crew that knows Centre County streets block by block.

Winter-Ready Loadouts

From November through March our crew shows up to your State College doorstep with floor runners, ice-melt, and pad-wrapped dollies, so snowmelt and grit stay off the hardwood. Gravel ridge driveways across Centre County and central Pennsylvania get a smaller box truck and a slower approach on grade.

Top-Rated PA Crews

Every hand at your door is on the Appalachian Movers payroll — full-time, background-checked, W-2, and trained the way Wade runs Happy Valley. Never day labor pulled off a board. That is how we hold a 5-star Google rating across Centre County.

One Flat Written Rate

Your figure is set on paper before the first carton leaves your State College doorway, and it holds when US-322 stacks up by Pleasant Gap or the job runs late. Long hauls out I-80 or I-99 come back as a binding written total — nothing added at the curb.

No Broker Handoffs

Every truck at a State College curb wears the Appalachian Movers name, and each mover on it draws a W-2 paycheck. Your load is never handed to an outside carrier — one local company packs it, drives it, and carries it in.

Fully Insured, $1M Cargo

We run as a registered Pennsylvania household-goods carrier — PA PUC MV-389-A for intrastate work, with USDOT/MC authority across state lines. A $1 million cargo policy backs every Happy Valley job, no exceptions.

On Time Across the Valley

A two-hour arrival window and a call the moment the truck leaves our Atherton yard. We route around the I-80 / I-99 merge backups and the Branch Road choke point, so your closing date holds.

Packing & Supplies Included

Pack the whole house, just the finished basement, or only the rooms keeping you awake. Cartons, pads, dollies, and shrink film ride on the truck before the crew leaves the yard, so wrapping starts the moment we step into your State College doorway.

Specialty Pieces Handled

Upright pianos, gun safes, antique sideboards, and oversized armoires get the right ramp and straps — plus a crew chief who has eased them up tight Bellefonte Victorian staircases and out of Lemont finished basements.

Your Easy State College Move

A flat written rate, then loading, then unloading at your new Centre County address — three steps, start to finish.

1

Tell Us About Your Move

Share the basics — rooms, finished basement, ridge driveway access, any upright piano or gun safe — and Wade’s office prices it as one clear flat figure with no fine print.

2

We Wrap & Protect

The crew rolls up on time, pads and shrink-wraps every piece — finished basements, third-floor walk-ups, narrow Victorian staircases — and shoulders all the heavy lifting.

3

Move to Your New Home

We drive across Centre County or out US-322 / I-80 toward Harrisburg or Pittsburgh, unload box by box into the right rooms, and reassemble the furniture. Welcome home!
